Introduction
Description:

The control panel is a fundamental part of the program. It is easy to use and intuitive. Thanks to the control panel most actions are quickly performed, like configuration of grids, charts, indicators, objects etc.

This window is the one stop to perform any configuration.

There are two parts:

  • Studies list

  • Attached Studies

The two tables have the same graphical appearance and a similar functionality too. The main difference is that while in the table "Studies list" one can see all the available objects that can be added to the chart, in the table "Attached Studies" only the objects already in use on the chart are shown.

The properties of inner windows, girds, and charts, are shown in the same way in both tables.

A very important point is that the studies are grouped by category (indicators, objects, trading systems). For this reason at any one time only the studies of the selected category are shown. In order to change from one category to another, use the buttons on the top toolbar in the Control Panel.

Use:

There are various ways to access the Control Panel:

  • Select the entry "Property" from the pop-up menu, which appears by clicking the right hand mouse key when the cursor is positioned on a study (indicator, trendline, trading system, internal window, grid, etc.) In this case when the Control Panel window is opened it will be showing the object properties, avoiding the extra step to select the object from the treeview.

  • Click on the Vertical Tab "Panel" on the left side of the main program window. In this case the panel will be open in the indicators section. Then it will be left to the user to look for the desired study on the treeview.

  • Select the entry "Available" or "Attached" from "Indicators" on the pop-up menu which appears by clicking with the right hand mouse key when the cursor is on any internal window. In this case the "Control Panel" is opened in the indicators section, and it will be positioned in the "Studies list" or "Attached Studies" depending on which menu entry has been selected.

  • Select the entry "Available" or "Attached" from "Indicators" on the pop-up menu which appears by clicking with the right hand mouse key when the cursor is on any internal window. In this case the "Control Panel" is opened in the indicators sections, and it will be positioned in the "Studies list" or "Attached Studies" depending on which menu entry has been selected.

  • Select the menu entry "Available Indicators" or "Available Trading Systems" from the main window menu "Studies"

Cancel

It closes the Control Panel Windows, without saving the changes to the properties of the active object.

Apply It applies the changes made to the displayed properties, without closing the Control Panel window.
Remove It deletes the selected object from the list and from the chart.

It is possible to choose the way the properties changes are applied. They can be applied immediately or by pressing the OK button, according to the value of the option "Apply immediately the new properties values" on the Options table.

Main Tables

The table Studies list has a treeview structure with two levels and one property detail.

In the first level of the treeview the available studies are shown. The second level shows the studies attached to the chart, if they exist, grouped by category. Supposing there is only one RSI indicator attached to the chart, this will be displayed on the second section of the indicators, under the entry RSI (second level)

The table Attached Studies is formed from a simple list, and a property detail.

The list shows, if they exist, the studies attached to the chart for the active section. (The sections could be for indicators, studies, trading systems etc.) If there are 3 indicators attached to the chart, activating the indicators sections on the Control Panel, they will be shown in the list. If in the chart there are studies, (e.g. trendline) in order to display the list, select the sections "Studies" pressing the respective button on the toolbar on the top of the Control Panel window.

Clicking with the right hand mouse button with the cursor on any node of the treeview, a pop-up menu will appear. From there it is possible to delete the selected object or to create a new one.

The property detail section is divided in three tables:

Properties:

Here are shown all the properties which the user can change for a given object. They are presented in a grid with two columns. There will be as many rows as the number of properties available for the selected object. The first column shows the property name, in the second column has the property value.

Not all properties are mandatory. If some properties are required or have invalid values, the system will prompt a message to the user. For example for the "RSI" indicator, the number of periods for which the calculation is executed, is necessary and mandatory. If this value is not correctly inserted, it will not be possible to create or modify the indicator.

It is possible to change the dimensions of the two sections, Treeview, and Property Details dragging the horizontal line which divides them. The total dimension will remain the same. If one increases the other decreases.

Position: This is enabled only for indicators. IT is used to define the window where the selected indicator is.

Options:

It contains some general options:

  • "Restore all the original defaults" => allows to restore all the default values.

  • "Apply immediately the new properties values" => If set, it allows to apply changes immediately, without having to accept them explicitly pressing the "OK" or "Apply" buttons.

It is also possible to modify the default value for new objects, indicators, grids, internal windows etc. Doing so, when a new object is created, it will have the default valued defined by the user.

To set new default values select the check box "Set these values as defaults" underneath the properties grid, before pressing the "OK" or "Apply" buttons.

Most parts of the tables, in the Control Panes, are accessible only if an opened chart exists. This is because all the settings and functions here are related almost exclusively to charts.

To make it easy to pass from one chart to another, there is a combo box immediately underneath the toolbar. From this list, the user can choose a different chart from the active one. The selected chart is brought to front and the treeview is disabled because the properties shown are referred to the previous chart. The refresh is not executed automatically. They can be modified when their chart became again the active one.

To re-enable the treeview on the Control Panel window, click on any of the icon of the toolbar. In this case the list of properties and values will be the one of the active chart.
